A recent research brief from the Pennsylvania Compensation Rating Bureau (PCRB), titled Impact of Excess Heat on Workplace Injuries, reveals a clear connection between higher temperatures—particularly those exceeding 80 degrees—and an increased incidence of workers’ compensation injuries. The study draws on 11 years of workers’ compensation claims data (2012–2022) from Pennsylvania, examining the effects of excessive heat on workplace safety. Industries with significant outdoor exposure, such as Agriculture and Construction, were found to be especially vulnerable. This important analysis underscores the need for heightened awareness and preventive measures to protect workers as temperatures continue to rise.
